Tuning of Quantum-Electronic Devices by Actuating the MEMS

Abstract.
Micromechanical structures (MEMS can be used to tune the performance of quantum-electronic devices. Many solutions which are able to perform this tasks are reviewed and the resulting device behaviour is estimated. One- and zero-DEG devices are evaluated first. Then, resonant tunnelling and quantum cascading are then discussed. The applications concern microwave and optical devices. Finally, quantum structures for field emission of electrons are reviewed.
